License agreement.
The desktop app license, open-source component credits, and update consent in one place.
Grant of license
By downloading and running the Symon macOS desktop application ("the Software"), you accept this End User License Agreement. Symon grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software on macOS devices you own or control, solely for your personal or internal business purposes.
This license does not transfer ownership of the Software or any intellectual property rights in it. You receive a right to use, not a right to possess. All rights not expressly granted are reserved by Symon.
Restrictions
You may not:
- Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Software beyond what applicable law expressly permits
- Transfer, sublicense, sell, or otherwise make the Software available to any third party
- Remove or obscure any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices in the Software
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent that such activity is permitted by applicable law
- Use the Software to develop a competing product or service
Subscription and Pro features
Some features of the Software require an active Symon Pro subscription ($6.99 USD/month, billed via Stripe). Pro features cease to function if your subscription lapses or is cancelled. Free features — basic dictation and local transcript storage — remain available without a subscription, subject to continued availability of the app and any applicable service dependencies.
Automatic updates
The Software includes an auto-updater (Tauri Updater) that periodically checks for and installs new versions from the Symon GitHub release channel. By installing the Software, you consent to receiving these automatic updates. Updates may add, modify, or remove features. To opt out of auto-updates, you may disable the updater in the app's settings; note that doing so means you will not receive security patches automatically.

The Software incorporates the following open-source libraries. Each is used in accordance with its respective license:

Warranty disclaimer
The Software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Symon expressly disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. Symon does not warrant that the Software will operate without interruption or error, or that defects will be corrected.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Symon shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Software. Symon's total aggregate liability for any claim related to this agreement is limited to the amount you paid for the Software in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Export control
The Software is subject to United States export control laws and regulations. You agree not to export, re-export, or transfer the Software, directly or indirectly, to any country, person, or entity prohibited by US export regulations, including without limitation those on the US Treasury Department's OFAC sanctions lists or the US Commerce Department's Entity List.
Termination
This license is effective until terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach any term of this agreement. Upon termination, you must destroy all copies of the Software in your possession. Sections covering warranty disclaimer, limitation of liability, and export control survive termination. Cancellation of a Symon Pro subscription terminates your right to use Pro features; free features remain available under this license unless the agreement is otherwise terminated.
Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States. Any disputes arising under this agreement will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Pennsylvania.
